Daehan Shipbuilding Holds Simultaneous Naming Ceremony

for Three 8,000 TEU-Class Container Ships

명명식

Daehan Shipbuilding has successfully constructed three 8,000 TEU-class container ships, the first of this class ordered since the company's founding. A simultaneous naming ceremony for these vessels was held at the Haenam Shipyard on the 23rd.

The vessels have been named 'CATHERINE C', 'Greenland', and 'Greenville'.

Approximately 80 people attended the event, including Kim Kwang-ho, Chairman of Daehan Shipbuilding, shipowners, and classification society supervisors.

These ships are three out of four 8,000 TEU-class container vessels that were ordered by the Greek shipping company Danaos in April 2022, marking Daehan Shipbuilding's entrance into the container ship market.

Measuring 272 meters in length, 24.6 meters in height, and 42.8 meters in width, these vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially starting at the end of this month.

Designed as Methanol Ready, these ships can potentially utilize environmentally friendly methanol as fuel in the future.

They feature eco-friendly technologies such as an Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) system to supply electricity while docked, and scrubbers to reduce sulfur oxide emissions.

Initially focusing on bulk carriers and later shifting to tankers, Daehan Shipbuilding has proven its capability in constructing shuttle tankers and container ships with this year's orders, thereby diversifying its product portfolio.

Last year, Daehan Shipbuilding exceeded its order target by 130%, securing orders for 14 vessels totaling $1.15 billion, and it was the only medium-sized shipbuilder to return to profitability.
