[2025.01.07] DHshipbuilding Holds First Naming Ceremony of the Year for Four Product Carriers

DHshipbuilding Holds

First Naming Ceremony of the Year

for Four Product Carriers

DHshipbuilding marked the start of the New Year with a simultaneous naming ceremony for four newly built product carriers.

On January 7, DHshipbuilding held a naming ceremony at its Haenam shipyard for four product carriers, the company’s main line of construction. The vessels were named STAVANGER STAR, OSLO STAR, COPENHAGEN STAR, and ATHENIAN STAR.

The event was attended by around 90 guests, including DHshipbuilding Chairman Kim Kwang-ho, representatives of the shipowner, and classification society inspectors. These four vessels were part of the orders placed by Greek shipping company ATLAS in September, November, and December 2022. The ships are environmentally friendly, equipped with scrubbers (sulfur oxide reduction systems), and are built with “LNG DF Ready” capability, enabling future conversion to LNG dual-fuel propulsion.

The vessels, measuring 249.9 meters in length, 44 meters in breadth, and 21.5 meters in depth, are scheduled for sequential delivery starting at the end of January.

This naming ceremony holds special significance for DHshipbuilding. Since placing its first order with DHshipbuilding in 2020, ATLAS has continued to expand its partnership, ordering 4 vessels in 2021, another 4 in 2022, 6 in 2023, and 2 more in 2024. In total, ATLAS has placed orders for 17 vessels worth approximately USD 1.18 billion.

ATLAS’s continued large-scale orders reflect its high evaluation of DHshipbuilding’s outstanding quality, reliable delivery schedule, and proven construction capabilities. Notably, DHshipbuilding Chairman Kim Kwang-ho personally attended the contract signings in 2022 and 2024, demonstrating on-site leadership that further strengthened the shipowner’s trust.

Jin Ki-bong, Head of Sales at DHshipbuilding, commented:
“The steady stream of orders from our long-standing partners demonstrates their strong trust in DHshipbuilding’s quality. We will devote our full attention to maintaining high quality and on-time delivery for the remaining eight vessels, living up to ATLAS’s expectations.”

Meanwhile, in 2023, DHshipbuilding achieved orders worth approximately USD 840 million for eight vessels (three shuttle tankers and five Suezmax crude oil tankers), bringing its current order backlog to 26 ships.
