News and people, We talk with Chung Dae-sung, CEO of Daehan Shipbuilding.

Q1. Good news arrived early in the new year.

Did you launch the 100th ship since its foundation?

A1. Yes, Daehan Shipbuilding overcame the company's financial crisis for 14 years since its foundation in 2007 and launched the 100th ship.

Under the single dock system, launching more than 100 ships was possible thanks to the sweat and efforts of all the employees and partner companies. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation for the efforts of our employees and partner companies.

Q2. Currently, How many orders remaining for Daehan shipbuilding?

A2. Yes, we currently have 17 vessels including oil products carriers which are the main types of ships of Korean shipbuilding, crude oil tankers, and shuttle tankers.

Q3. Overlapping Corona 19 the global shipbuilding market continues to experience negative factors. I would like to hear about the order strategy.

A3. The Corona19 situation indeed hurts our sales and production activities. However, no one has been being infected by Corona19, and the successful preventive measure has earned the trust of our customers. Recently, we are in discussions with many shipping companies to improve fuel efficiency and develop eco-friendly ships, and we expect orders to be received soon.

Q4. I heard that Daehan shipbuilding's competitiveness in the European market is getting good reviews. Is there any special reason?

A4. Daehan Shipbuilding is a shipyard specializing in medium-sized oil tankers and has been well received worldwide due to its competitiveness in quality. We have been recognized for our quality by Chevron, the world's largest oil major, and we have maintained a good relationship with them. In Greece, which leads the tanker market, we have maintained a good reputation, and in particular maintained good partnerships with leading shipping companies such as Maran, Chakos, Minerva, and Energisch. Our new contract with Belgium's largest shipping company will be terminated soon, which is expected to further increase our competitiveness.

Q5. Recently, Daehan shipbuilding signed an agreement for technology development with the American Class of Shipping Association and LNG Fuel Supplier.

What does it mean?

A5. In addition to oil product carriers and crude oil carriers, which are the main types of ships of Daehan shipbuilding, the development of high value-added ships such as shuttle oil tankers, LNG fuel suppliers, and propulsion ships has been completed. Furthermore, to develop various types of ships following international eco-regulation, we plan to continue our technical cooperation with relevant organizations.

Q6. Finally, the shipbuilding market is moving to a high value-added ship rapidly.

What is the survival strategy of Daehan shipbuilding?

A6. First, the corporate value of Korea Chosun is the contribution to the local community and the happiness of its employees through profit generation. For this reason, we are making full use of the two-track strategy of simultaneously building a medium-sized tanker that is currently being built as a mainstay and a high-value-added ship that has been developed. As the oil tanker market, which had been stagnant due to Corona 19, is recovering, the company will continue to maintain the No. 1 market share of medium-sized oil tankers based on advanced technology and trust. In addition, as demand increases due to environmentally friendly ship regulations, we will concentrate all our technologies on the construction of small gas carriers, LNG fuel suppliers, and eco-friendly public vessels.
