A business agreement was signed with 36 institutions and companies.

Jeollanam-do has set the stage for a leap forward as the center of the eco-ship industrial ecosystem.

Jeollanam-do announced on the 28th that it has signed a business agreement at Yeongam Hotel Hyundai to make an eco-friendly ship ecosystem with 36 institutions and companies, including the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Mokpo-si, KRISO, and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-Rok, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Moon Sung-Hyuk, Seo Sam-Seok, and Kim Won-i who is member of the national assembly attended the signing ceremony, Mokpo Mayor Kim Jong-Sik, Korea research institute of ships & ocean engineering’s Director Kim Boo-Ki, and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industrie’s CEO Kim Hyung-Kwan.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Jeollanam-do, and Mokpo-si participated in the government and local governments, while Korean Register, KRISO, KOMERI, RIMS, Mokpo National University, and Mokpo Marine University participated in the business agreement.

Engineering companies include vinsen, Korean ship technology, Jinos, and Lee Young S&D participated in the agreement.

According to the agreement, each institution and company will establish mutually cooperative relationships and create an ecosystem for R&D, introduction, and commercialization of eco-ships.

It also realizes Korean-style new deals using core technologies and leads industrial development.

In particular, the government and local governments, as well as leading domestic research institutes, universities, classification institutions, shipbuilding and equipment companies, and engineering companies will form a large-scale network.

As a result, the "Eco-Ship Entire Cycle Value Chain" from R&D to demonstration and commercialization of eco-ships is expected to accelerate the creation and industrialization of eco- coastal ship clusters in Jeollanam-do.

Global warming has made climate change increasingly serious, and regulations on ships and greenhouse gases are also being tightened.

Accordingly, eco-ship technology is emerging as a key technology that will determine the future of the shipbuilding industry.

Jeollanam-do and Mokpo-si have started building an eco-ship cluster around Mokpo's southern port since last year to advance the carbon-neutral society through eco-ships and make a breakthrough in shipbuilding industry.

In this regard, eco-ship R&D projects such as the development of electric propulsion lanes and mobile power supply systems (45 billion won) and development and demonstration of eco-ship mixed fuel technology (41.5 billion won).

In addition, they are striving to secure detailed assignments of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy’s "Innovation Technology Development Project for EcoShip Entire Cycle (254 billion won).

Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-Rok said, "Let's develop eco-ship technology to advance the carbon-neutral society, open a new future for the shipbuilding industry, and preoccupy the world market. We will actively take the lead in creating an industrial ecosystem."

“Jeollanam-do has the largest number of domestic coastal ships and routes, and research and innovative institutions related to eco-ships. So we should make enterprise organizations that direct the feasibility study and expand participation in detailed tasks, he adds.

It also requested support for the development of innovative technologies for the entire cycle of eco- ships ▲ Designation of Mokpo New Port to Marine Wind Power Specialized Zone ▲ Construction of "Con" docks ▲ Half-price national support for island passenger ships ▲ Creation of mudflats and fisheries▲Carrying forward to
fishing village&fishing port recycling business ▲ Creation Dadohae mud flat park ▲Raising of support fund to recover disaster

Governor Kim said, "Korea's mudflats have been registered as UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites," and stressed, "The Dadohae mudflats in Jeollanam-do, which account for 87% of the nation's mudflats, are the largest reservoir of blue carbon, and need to create a Dadohae mud flat park in Jeollanam-do to realize 2050 carbon neutrality."
