Daehan Shipbuilding obtains orders for four 1,000 TEU container ships

- Diversifying kind of ship to strengthen of the company’s competition.
- Increasing operating profit by building small containers and utilizing dock extra space.

Daehan Shipbuilding announced on October 8 that it won six 1,000 TEU container ships (including two options) from Pan Ocean, a domestic shipping company. Daehan Shipbuilding, which has won its first container ship order, plans to enter the small container ship market through the contract.

As the economy, which was stagnant since COVID-19, has recovered gradually, the volume of goods has increased while ocean freight charges risen rapidly last year. As a result, demand for container ships has increased sharply, and container ship orders are expected to continue for a while.

The 1,000 TEU container ship that Daehan Shipbuilding won this time is 147.9m long, 23.3m wide, and 11.3m deep, and can load 1,000 20ft containers. The ship is forecasted to begin construction in June 2022 and deliver successively to the shipowner from May 2023.

Daehan Shipbuilding obtains this order to ensure corporate sustainability by diversifying its predecessors through entering the container market. To expand sales and profits, Daehan Shipbuilding has put effort to develop a strategic ship that can be built simultaneously with medium-sized ships in a dock’s extra space. And they have recently completed the development of small container ship technology specialized in the yard environment of Daehan Shipbuilding.

Starting with this order, Daehan Shipbuilding plans to continue to maintain a good relationship with domestic shipping companies to increase amounts of domestic shipping company’s orders. Recently, small and medium-sized shipping companies in demand, so Daehan shipbuilding expected to expand their market share of containers based on domestic shipowners in demand for small containers.

And we will get the world’s best title of the small container ship.”
