Daehan Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. holds two EURONAV crude oil tankers' naming ceremony
- Non-face naming ceremony event held due to prolonged corona 19

“CEDAR” and “CYPRESS” named in non-face-to-face naming ceremony

Daehan Shipbuilding has successfully built two Suez Max-class oil carriers ordered from the Belgian tanker EURONAV and held a naming ceremony.

The naming ceremony for the EURONAV ship was held on Dec. 14 in a non-face-to-face manner via an online connection. Previously, the event was planned as a large-scale event, but due to the spread of Omicron, it was difficult for shipowners from overseas to enter the country, so they decided to hold a non-face-to-face event with Belgian shipowners in real-time.

The non-face-to-face naming ceremony was held onboard the ship with Daehan Shipbuilding management, shipowner supervisors, classification society members, and crew members. And shipowners and all the parties concerned attended the ceremony via an online connection.

Although cutting the rope with an ax and breaking the champagne bottles, was not held in the event, but earnestness is the same as before.

On the same day, the ships of the HN5057/58 (called Hull No. at the shipyard) in Europa were named CEDAR and CYPRESS each, and after that, the horn was sounded to celebrate the birth of the ship.

Kim Young-Soo, the director of the Daeahn Shipbuilding Customer Support Department, who directed the non-face-to-face naming ceremony, said, "The naming ceremony officially declares that the ship was born. It is a significant event for shipowners and shipbuilders," adding, "We plan to hold a non-face-to-face naming ceremony to dispel the regrets of shipowners about the off-line ceremony. As a result, they are satisfied with a non-face-to-face naming ceremony."

An official at Daehan Shipbuilding said, "EURONAV is a global tanker company, and the owner was impressed with the high quality of the ship completed. So they pay supporting money to us to express their appreciation."
